4 Russian soldiers charged in theft of crash victim's bank cards



MOSCOW - Four Russian soldiers who were assigned to guard the still-smoldering remains of a Polish jetliner in April were charged Tuesday with stealing and using bank cards that belonged to an official who died in the crash, said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee of the Russian general prosecutor. Over the weekend, Russia's Interior Ministry emphatically denied Polish allegations that police had taken valuables from the dead. But on Tuesday, officials acknowledged that four soldiers had been caught with stolen bank cards.
